Hi-Y : A Club For High School Students
It is a club for High School students, which meets once in a month wheredebates, seminars, quiz programmes are conducted for their all-rounddevelopment. They are taken out for camps and picnics and toparticipate in regional and National level meetings.
Ys Mens Club For Business And Professionalcategory Of Members
It is a club consisting of membership from business and professionalcategory of members to serve the community through the MadrasYMCA. Many members had the privilege of visiting many YMCAs abroad.
Uni-Y : A Club For University Students
It is a club for University students, which also meets once in a month inall the branches and participates in debates, seminars and quizprogrammes. Members of Uni-y club also get an opportunity to attendWorld meets, International camps as well as training programmesorganized by YMCAs throughout the world.
Toastmasters Club To Learn The Art Of Public speaking
It is a club for people to learn the art of public speaking, which meetsonce a week at a few branches. This club has produced some of the topclass bureaucrats and politicians of our country.
Community Centers
The Madras YMCA runs three community centres in the city for thebenefi t of the slum dwellers and the under- privileged children. Apartfrom this, two orphanages and two schools are run for the benefi t of thepoor people. Different trades are taught to help them earn theirlivelihood.
Developing Branches
It was under the General Secretaryship of Mr Alexander that the YMCAacquired a new building, following a campaign launched with the terseslogan “Building for Brotherhood”. However, it was Mr Solomon whohelped the YMCA in acquiring the site on Ritherdon Road for its VeperyBranch. Capt. D.Gnanaolivu, the Chairman of the State Housing Board,was president of the YMCA from 1962 and chipped in his might in theeffort. That apart, the site on which the YMCA, Kilpauk startedfunctioning was donated by Mr Jacob Mathi.
